The MarketEven though several classic video stores have closed their doors, the general population still wants to rent and purchase DVDs. This reality is illustrated in part by the ever-growing number of Canadian families who are investing in home theatres. Likewise, emerging technologies and the existing ultramodern audio-video systems are encouraging consumers to rent HD DVDs and Blu-ray discs. Contrarily to certain beliefs, recent studies have shown that pay per view television and downloading only represent a small portion of all the movies viewed by the consumer. Among others, the poor picture quality of downloaded films as well as the often higher fees of pay per view television does not drive consumers to opt for this form of rental. The current cost of life has sensitized people regarding their budget when it comes to entertainment related expenditures. The moderately high cost of a family’s night out at the movies incites many consumers to simply rent a movie and watch it in the comfort of their own homes. Within the same train of thought, we consider that clients would rather rent a movie for as low as $1.99 as opposed to renting the same DVD from a regular video store at a much higher price. We believe that this new technology will revolutionize the DVD rental market in Quebec. In fact, there are over 20 000 vending machines currently in use in the United States and 15 000 in Europe, thus illustrating the guaranteed success of this state-of-the-art technology. |

The LocationsThanks to the small amount of space required by the vending machines, several locations are possible. These vending machines can be set up in a grocery store, convenience store, drug store, restaurant or even an office building. In fact, the investor can choose his or her desired location. Certain vending machines are currently located inside several Jean-Coutu drug stores and Boni-Soir, Shell and Couche-Tard convenience stores. We can also find these vending machines inside small shopping malls of approximately 200 square feet. |
